Aitutaki Water Committee

April 2026

The Aitutaki Water Committee has been established with a focus to “provide consistent water supply to homes in 2026”.

Our water galleries and network requires significant investment to meet current demand and this will take time. Plans to establish 4 new water galleries this year are in place. However the water pipe network in some areas of Aitutaki leaks more than 50% of the water before it reaches the home.

Our National Government announced in Nov 2025 the release of USD$40M in funding over 7 years. Aitutaki residents are tier 3.

Our plan is to apply for funding on behalf of the homes (built before 2019) who qualify for water tanks, spouting and pumps. Our aim is to have a design that ensure each home has

  • a minimum of 12000L storage, (2 tanks on a concrete base)

  • all roof spouting installed and connected to the tanks,

  • First flush system to reduce leaf and roof waste into the tanks

  • one way valve to prevent tank water flowing back to the mains

  • Ball-cock inlet to stop mains water once tank is full

  • installed water pump sufficient size for the home

We are in touch with MFEM weekly waiting for the project team to be finalised and application documents to be available.
